Lotus Europa S2

IMG_7460.JPG

It is a rewiring of Lotus Europa and British cars.

The image on the left is from the rear, but have you noticed anything?

Please pay attention to the left and right tail lights.
Can you see the difference in brightness between the left and right when the tail light is on?

The one on the right is darker, and when you put out the turn signal, the small lamp on the rear flashes violently ...
It is clearly a symptom of poor grounding.
When I checked it, the contact of the terminal was poor.

Since it is an FRP body, it is not possible to ground the body, so it is necessary to draw a ground wire to each device except the chassis ground.

The number of fuses is small, and if the fuse blows, it is troublesome to identify the cause, and it seems that it will cause you to get stuck if you are on the go.

Wiring in the dashboard is organized for each device and each switch, which makes it quite refreshing.

Renault 5 This is a rewiring project for a French car.
The first thing I noticed was the deformation of the terminal coupler due to heat.

As you can see in the picture, it seems that the heat was applied enough to melt the plastic coupler. Why did this happen?

Although it is speculated, it seems that a fairly large current flows through the terminals that enter these two couplers, and for that reason the terminals used are small and there is little electrical contact, and it seems that heat generation → deformation.

In the case of old cars, the terminals themselves are often weakened due to deterioration of the terminals or the insertion and removal of terminals in the past, so there are many cases like this.
(In this case, I feel that the terminals are too small at the design stage, but ... sweat)

↑ Normally used terminal (left)
On the other hand, the terminal on the right is one size smaller.

The electrical contact area becomes smaller by that amount, so you need to pay attention to the current value that flows.

A coupler that has been deformed by heat.

It is a coupler that sticks to the headlight switch of the handle column.

The relationship between electricity and heat is fairly familiar and can generate heat that melts plastic and wire coatings.

By adding a part called a relay as shown in the photo on the left, the current flowing through the column switch can be suppressed considerably, so the heat generation and deterioration of the terminals due to heat generation can inevitably be eliminated.

Also, the switch contacts are gentle and can extend the life considerably, so the effect is great for vehicles such as out-of-print parts.

These are the added relays.

New harness.

 The shadow is reflected ...

The electric wire standards, terminals, and couplers used vary depending on the nationality, model year, and manufacturer of the vehicle.

Similarly, the electrical weaknesses vary from car to car, so it is possible to manufacture a harness that suits each car's riding style.

Replace the fuse box with a blade type.
I was able to find something that just fits!

This is a request to make a Yazaki harness.

The Yazaki harness and Sumitomo harness that were installed in old domestic cars have some troubles.

IMG_2156.jpg

When I peel off the harness tape, 3 to 4 wires are joined by the splice terminal on the way.

It is not the same color as the image, so it is necessary to actually peel off the tape and check it.

IMG_2159.jpg

In addition, there are more than 20 such places.

New couplers can also be procured.
